Introduction
Arts and Humanities covers those cultural disciplines concerned with human sensibilities and values, ranging from the intellectual to the spiritual, from the cognitive to the affective, and from the ethical to the sociological.
This covers a compartment of wisdom and knowledge known as axiology that permeates all the other sections, and will be cross-referenced to most other subjects

Academic Colours for the Humanities
There are no colours that have been universally attributed to the Humanities. Medieval Persia is said to have had a Gold School in which Wisdom was the subject of studies, as distinct from Immortality in the Green School, and so on.

See CONROY on Colour Symbolism in the RCA Colour Library

It is rare, however to see a Gold lined hood conferred on a university graduate in the humanities, as of the Old Gold satin of the B.Litt. and M.Litt at Durham. Most of the older universities confer Scarlet lined hoods on their D.Litt. graduates, as at Oxford and Cambridge, as well as Dublin and Aberdeen. London and Glasgow use Red for their Ph.Ds. Blue is another colour sometimes used by the older universities for academic hoods of the humanities. Dublin uses Blue for its M.A. and adds it to its Scarlet in the D.Litt hood. Oxford uses Blue for its B.Litt., and Edinburgh for its D.Litt., while St Andrews has Blue for its Ph.D. Purple is also often used for the hoods of degrees in Divinity as in the Scottish Universities, and Durham where the D.D. is of Palatinate Purple silk. A Purple lining is also sometimes used for degrees in Music, especially abroad as of the Mus.D. of South Africa and the Mus.Bac of the Lincoln-Jefferson University. Durham also uses Purple edging for its Mus. Bac.and Oxford uses Lilac edging for this hood.
