DIY Colour Decor

If you decide to DIY, then be sure to order first very small quantities of paint so that you can at least try out a larger area than is possible by holding colour samples together. For colour specification systems see Specification under Industry and Manufacture.

Professional Colour Decor

The specification of colours in the decor of an office or factory is best done by a trained designer, for the following reasons :-

1. The appearance of a small colour sample is deceptive. Scientific studies have shown how the parameters of a colour may change sometimes quite dramatically when the colour is enlarged to wall size. Designers are trained to be aware of the way in which such colours change.

2. The precise contrast between colours can be critical. It is easy to miss the exact contrast appropriate to context.

3. Harmonies of colour, i.e. closely related families of colours can in certain contexts look like bad matching instead of subtle harmonies.

4. Creating the appropriate mood of a colour scheme is not only related to the choice of individual colours, but of the aesthetic effect of their interelationship.
