Introduction
The significance of colour in biological organisms is the effect of three driving forces: through the reflection of unwanted radiant energy, for example, in the greenness of leaves through a combination of light reflected or transmitted from one organism and received by the colour vision of that or another organism, as in animals and flowering plants; or it can arise from a biochemical substance optimized for a purpose other than colouring, of which blood is an example.
