A selection from some of the 'psychic colours' and their meanings illustrated by Besant and Leadbeater (1901) in Thought Forms. Adyar : Theosophical Publishing House.
Such so-called 'psychic' colours could be painted, printed or shone as lights. Their meanings, however, had to have plenty of fluidity depending upon the appropriateness of their application and context. Strictly speaking, no actual colours can be' psychic' only people's interpretations of them. Besant and Leadbeater saw the light and cold colours as 'Spiritual', the warm and saturated colours as 'Human' and the subdued colours as 'Malign'. On the other hand, the colder red was seen as 'Affectionate' and the warmer red as 'Anger'. Under the influence of Buddhism, they attributed yellow to the 'Highest level of Intellect'.
