If, for example, one wanted to make oneself more aggressive one would invoke Mars by calling upon all its magical characteristics. Aleister Crowley's Martial powers were to be found in his occult tabulations at the Vision of Power, Ares, Hades, Thor, Death, Vishnu, and the Basilisk. He used the Root of Fire with the magical substances, Iron and Sulphur, and the halucinogenic drugs Nettle and Nux Vomica. His magical sigils were weapons such as the Sword, Spear, Scourge or Chain. The appropriate perfume was Tobacco. His list included burners and the imagery of Fiery serpents, the Heart Chakra, the clay of Death, the mighty Warrior in his chariot armed and crowned. To go with all these were the colours attributed to Mars, which were a brilliant Orange, bright Scarlet and Red flecked with Black. These were taken from the Colour Scales of the King, the Queen, the Emperor and the Empress and were used as the colours of the concentric circles painted on the floor around the magician?s altar. Each of the colour scales was a 'power' of one of the letters of the unmentionable name of God (YHWH) revealed to Moses in Exodus. (Crowley 1955) |
