Customizing Colours of Cars
The notion of customizing the colour of ones car is far from a new idea. Aside from the simple process of changing the colour from one to another, more extreme ideas have long existed. |
Many are no doubt familiar with the long-standing ‘hot rod’, often decorated with flame decals and bright paintwork along with the popular narrow, tinted windows. Another historical custom favorite must surely be the brightly coloured vans and buses from the 60s.

In the 21 st century, the options open to would-be ‘customizers’ are seemingly endless. Why simply stop with the colour of the paintwork when coloured lighting is available? Many also choose to colour engine parts and, as can be seen to the right, further enhance the machinery with lighting. |

ROBERT, H.F. Jnr. (1954) ‘Hot rods and customs’, chap 2 of SILK, G. Automobile and Culture. N.Y.: Harry N. Abrahams. This gives an excellent early account of the history of colour customizing cars.
